02.09.2010 MorphoSys Initiates Program Against Drug-Resistant MRSA Infections  
MorphoSys AG (FSE: MOR; Prime Standard Segment, TecDAX) announced today a new proprietary development program against novel infectious disease targets. As part of this initiative, MorphoSys has signed a license and collaboration agreement with UK-based Absynth Biologics, providing access to novel target molecules associated with Staphylococcus aureus infections including MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus). MorphoSys will generate antibodies using its proprietary HuCAL PLATINUM antibody library which Absynth will test in relevant disease models. MorphoSys will be solely responsible for the development and partnering of the resulting compounds. Absynth will receive an upfront payment and is eligible for development-dependent milestone payments and royalties. Further financial details were not disclosed.




   
31.08.2010 Vetter Opens New Sales Office at Illinois Science + Technology Park in Suburban Chicago  
In keeping with its strategy of U.S. growth and expansion, Vetter, a specialist in aseptically prefilled drug-delivery systems, today announced that it has opened a new sales office at the Illinois Science +Technology Park in Skokie. The office will be managed by Mr. Troy Carpenter, who was appointed as President of Vetter Pharma International USA Inc. The new office replaces its Yardley, Pennsylvania sales office, founded in 1983 as Vetter Pharma-Turm Inc. The establishment of the new office in the Midwest region, considered an emerging “hotspot” in biotechnology, is consistent with the company’s stated objective for worldwide growth by focusing on the emerging pharmaceutical and biotechnology market in North America. The office, to be officially known as Vetter Pharma International USA Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vetter Pharma International GmbH, which is responsible for Vetter’s sales and marketing as well as customer service functions. In 2009, Vetter announced the creation of its first U.S. manufacturing facility, also located at the Illinois Science + Technology Park. The facility – an expansion of Vetter Development Service – is scheduled to be operational in the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2010.
   
18.08.2010 CEVEC Signs Global License Agreement for Human CAP-T Technology with Life Technologies  
CEVEC Pharmaceuticals, the developer of a novel human protein expression system derived from amniocytes, announced today the signing of a co-exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Life Technologies Corporation, a leading provider of innovative life science solutions based in Carlsbad, California. Under the terms of the agreement, Life Technologies and CEVEC will co-operate to offer optimized expression kits based on CEVEC’s proprietary CAP-T cells to the global life science research community. Life Technologies will pay CEVEC a signing fee and various milestone payments and royalties on sales of the future products. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed. CEVEC will continue to expand its global license business of the CAP® and CAP-T® technologies for commercial use and industrial development purposes.
   
16.08.2010 New Isolera™ UV-VIS Flash Purification System Delivers Widest Wavelength Range Available to Chemists  
Biotage (STO: BIOT), a leading developer of tools and technology for medicinal and analytical chemistry, announces the introduction of the Isolera™ UV-VIS flash purification system. The UV-VIS system enables detection of organic molecules with spectral absorbance between 200 nm and 800 nm making it the broadest wavelength detection flash system available to chemists. The system provides detection capable to near IR range. Applications for the UV-VIS system include natural products (carotenoids, flavanoids, proanthocyanidins, etc.), synthetic dyes, diagnostic dyes, and OLED chemicals.
   
10.08.2010 Anavex Appoints Contract Research Organizations to Initiate Phase I/IIa Clinical Programs, Regulatory Strategies in Alzheimer’s Disease  
Anavex Life Sciences Corp. ("ANAVEX") (OTCBB: AVXL) today announced that it has signed a definitive master services agreement with Genesis BioPharma Group (“Genesis”) and ABX-CRO Advanced Pharmaceutical Services (“ABX-CRO”) to begin clinical studies and regulatory filings  for ANAVEX 2-73, its lead compound for the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease.
   
05.08.2010 MediGene AG Reports Financial Results for First Six Months of 2010: Continuing Increase in Total Revenue, Significant Reduction of Loss  
In the first six months of 2010, the biotech company MediGene AG (Frankfurt, Prime Standard, TecDAX) increased total revenue by 26% to EUR 25.2 million, and reduced the loss on an EBITDA basis by 20% to EUR -5.4 million. The net loss was reduced by 60% to EUR -3.3 million. These results are reported in compliance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).

02.08.2010 MorphoSys Announces Clinical Milestone from Strategic Alliance  
MorphoSys AG (FSE: MOR; Prime Standard Segment, TecDAX) announced today that it will receive a milestone payment from Novartis in connection with the initiation of a phase 1 clinical trial of a HuCAL-derived, fully human antibody in the therapeutic area of ophthalmology. Today's news marks the entry of the third HuCAL-derived antibody into human clinical trials in 2010, following the advancement of one program each from the alliances with Novartis and Centocor Ortho Biotech earlier this year.
   
28.07.2010 MorphoSys AG Reports Six Months 2010 Results  
MorphoSys AG (FSE: MOR; Prime Standard Segment, TecDAX) today announced its financial results for the six months ending June 30, 2010 according to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Group revenues increased by 15 % to EUR 43.5 million (H1 2009: EUR 37.9 million) and operating profit increased by 26 % to EUR 8.3 million (H1 2009: EUR 6.6 million). Net profit amounted to EUR 5.9 million (H1 2009: EUR 5.0 million), a gain of 18 % over the same period of the previous year. As planned, MorphoSys further increased its investment in proprietary research and development to EUR 11.1 million (H1 2009: EUR 8.5 million). MorphoSys's cash position on June 30, 2010 was EUR 152.1 million (December 31, 2009: EUR 135.1 million). The cash position at balance sheet date still includes the outstanding up-front payment of approx. EUR 10.5 million, which was paid to Xencor in early July. The Company re-confirmed its full year guidance for 2010.
   
26.07.2010 AbD Serotec Secures Exclusive Worldwide License to Key Diagnostic Antibody
MorphoSys AG (FSE: MOR; Prime Standard Segment, TecDAX) announced today that its research and diagnostic antibodies unit AbD Serotec has signed an exclusive license agreement with UCL Business PLC (UCLB), the technology development company of University College London (UCL). The agreement provides AbD Serotec with worldwide exclusive access to a potent anti-PTH antibody for commercial use in research and diagnostic applications. The anti-PTH antibody forms the basis of an existing relationship between AbD Serotec and a leading diagnostic company which markets clinical parathyroid hormone assays.

Clontech Laboratories, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Takara Bio Inc., and TET Systems (TET), a privately-held German biotech company based in Heidelberg, today announced that they have signed an amendment to their existing license agreement. 19.07.2010 MediGene sells full European rights for Eligard® to Astellas for EUR 25 million and ongoing royalties
MediGene AG (Frankfurt, Prime Standard, TecDAX) announces the sale of full European marketing and distribution rights to Eligard® (leuprolide acetate, for the treatment of hormone-dependent prostate cancer) to Astellas Pharma Europe Ltd. (London, "Astellas"), previously MediGene's European marketing partner for Eligard®. MediGene acquired these rights from TOLMAR Therapeutics Inc. (formerly Atrix Laboratories Inc.) in 2001. In return for the Eligard® license, MediGene will receive EUR 25 million in cash from Astellas as well as royalties on future product sales. For MediGene, all future costs, obligations and risks associated with the supply of Eligard® to Astellas, as well all future procurement costs and license payments to TOLMAR, will cease within the next months.

Bionas GmbH announces the launch of its new Bionas® adcon reader for impedance-based, cellular analysis. The Bionas adcon reader technology is based on real-time monitoring of cellular impedance, thus giving real-time data about cell adhesion, membrane integrity, cellular morphology and cell proliferation for applications in toxicology, oncology, receptor signaling as well as the quality management of cells.  Bionas technology allows for the analysis of cellular behavior in real-time without the use of any dyes or antibodies, thus avoiding the result being biased by the manipulation of the cells during the assay. bitop AG, a biotech company specializing in the development of Ectoin-containing medical devices, reports that Ectoin allergy nasal spray has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms of acute allergic rhinitis in a two-week observational, randomized, comparative crossover study with 50 patients suffering from acute allergic rhinitis. Based on this study, bitop performed a clinical trial on eyes drops and nasal spray in humans using an environmental exposure chamber (EEC) model. The preliminary outcomes suggest a significant improvement of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.

24.06.2010 MediGene reports additional phase II results of EndoTAG(TM)-1 for the treatment of triple receptor-negative breast cancer  
The biotechnology company MediGene AG (Frankfurt, Prime Standard, TecDAX) announces additional phase II clinical trial results of the drug candidate EndoTAGTM-1 for the treatment of triple receptor-negative breast cancer. The extensive data analysis of the three-arm trial conducted in 140 patients confirms a positive efficacy trend of EndoTAGTM-1 in combination with paclitaxel for the treatment of this difficult to treat type of cancer. The objective of the trial was achieved, and the initial conclusion of the preliminary data published on May 6, 2010 was verified.

BioGenes GmbH a supplier of GMP-compliant immunoassays and antibodies, completed a study that documents the insufficient sensitivity of an ELISA-based generic host cell protein (HCP) assay. The results confirm the observation of several contract manufacturers that generic HCP assays are only of limited use for detection of HCPs during manufacturing processes. The continued use of generic HCP assays may lead to insufficient process documentation and finally to safety hazards for patients.

26.03.2010 MediGene AG presents future business plan at annual analyst conference
Today the biotech company MediGene AG (Frankfurt: MDG, Prime Standard, TecDAX) reported its results for the fiscal year 2009, and gave an outlook for the fiscal year 2010. According to the forecast, MediGene reduced the loss on an EBITDA basis in 2009, from approximately 25 million euros to approximately 19 million euros, with unchanged revenue of approximately 40 million euros. The net loss also improved significantly in 2009, from approximately 31 million euros in 2008 to 22 million euros this year.
